First Listen: Cat Power, Sun : NPR.
Found this album by Cat Power and a nice NPR review of a group I’ve never heard ofbefore.
That’s two this week.
Regina Spektor is the other, from a surprising source. I think
I’ll listen a little longer before deciding which to purchase, but I like what I heard.
It’s just that I spent my music budget last week on three albums by Fiona Apple. I’ve been listening to Extraordinary Machine for years, and yes, it is Extraordinary music!!
What’s your favorite singer/songwriter?
Or do you prefer a completely different category of music?
I don’t listen to anything when I’m writing, but the in between times are, for me, made lighter with music. The weight of editing a 100,000 manuscript for almost a year needs some interludes of lightness. Especially when it’s memoir. Don’t get me wrong. There’s tons of humor in my writing, but in the editing process, the tenth or twentieth time around, I often forget to laugh at myself. Music lifts my spirit. I can’t imagine a day without it.
One of my all time favorite singers is Adele. I’m sure I have a lot of company in that guilty pleasure.
From “Rolling in the Deep” to “Turning Tables” I can listen all day. She reaches right into my chest, grabs my heart and gives it a squeeze every time.
